    EDUCATION

Working with DPE to enhance your academic experience

    First Year Study Skills

Learning effectively at university can be difficult and even take some trial and error. Study skills advice can help new (and old) students learn effectively and efficiently.

    Learning & Teaching Strategy

This year has seen a mass of student consultation to shape this but our input shouldn't end here. I want to work with College to ensure student input in all developmental stages, implementation and evaluation of all College policy and strategies.

    White City

In the development of White City we must ensure high level, flexible teaching spaces to enhance our learning and ensure our courses can continue to change in line with feedback. I want protected lunch breaks when timetabled across two sites.

    WELFARE

Teaming up with DPW to give you the best support

    Student Support Provision

I want to work with College to provide counselling triage appointments within 10 college days. College needs to expand its offerings to meet demand at all times of the year. I want proper training for Personal Tutors and better sign posting of student services.

Welfare Reps, Liberation and Campaign Officers

I want to equip our Liberation and Campaign Officers with the skills to start grassroots campaigns. Imperial is a global community and I hope to empower our students to become global citizens and stand up for issues important to them.

Welfare Officers in our Constituent Unions and our reps need welfare training so they can hit the ground running.

    Interruption of Studies

I want to create a buddy scheme for students returning from an Interruption Of Studies to help them resettle into a new cohort. I will work with College for a two-way Interruption Of Studies Learning Agreement between faculties and students to ensure support to students upon their return.

    CLUBS, SOCIETIES & PROJECTS

    Supporting your activities with DPCS

    Minibuses

I want a shuttle service to Heston/Harlington on Wednesday afternoons to provide sports teams with transport. This should relieve the pressure on our minibuses and allow long distance activities to utilise them.

    Funding

I want to maintain funding in real terms for our CSPs. As the volume of activities grows, both from new clubs and societies and within those existing, the Union must support the increasing financial requirements.

    Storage

I want to review the storage spaces we provide on all our campuses and, if necessary, work to ensure appropriate and secure space for storage. I will also work to secure funding to maintain these spaces to keep your equipment safe.

    Committee Support & Development

I will continue my work with the Student Development and Student Activities Teams to ensure all our training is appropriate to you. I want clearer opportunities to identify and develop your skills so that you can enhance your job applications upon graduating.

    FINANCE & SERVICES

    Improving our services alongside DPFS

    Bars

I want to make sure all our outlets stock the products that you want at reasonable prices. I want to increase the number of student jobs available and provide all our casual employees with clear professional development opportunities.

    The Union Shop

By increasing our offer to Constituent Unions we can help them to reduce costs to their members and expand their own product range. With limited space on campus I want to review how we use our shop spaces to keep product variety in our stores.

    Finance

In line with the new strategy, I want to explore new and expand financial revenues so that the costs you see don't rise.

    OUR NEW STRATEGY

Building on the new union strategy

    Non-South Kensington Campuses

You deserve consistent support no matter what campus you are based at. The Union should be committing staff and sabbatical time to campuses other than South Kensington. I will maintain my focus on investing in the development of both Union and College spaces and services across all campuses.

    Postgraduate Engagement

I want to continue the work of the current sabbatical team and lobby for Wednesday afternoons off for postgraduates. We pride ourselves on participation and all students should be able to access our array of activities.

    Alumni

By engaging with our alumni and adapting our offerings we can provide you with a streamlined service when you graduate. Better alumni membership will give you a smooth customer service when you come back to visit our bars and allow you to keep up-to-date with your clubs and societies' activities.

    ICSM Students' Union

Sabbatical Consituent Union President, Clubs & Societies Officer and Treasurer

Having spent three years on Imperial College School of Medicine Students' Union, I have honed many crucial skills. I want to use these skills to best represent all students. I will work with you and your representatives to preserve our values and identity as we build our Union into a stronger community.

I have organised 3 successful and inclusive Freshers' Fortnights catering to over 1000 students and many other Constituent Union events. This provides me with the knowledge to lead plans for Week Zero. My three years of Management Group experience provides me with in depth knowledge of budgeting and day-to-day running of clubs, societies and projects. My experience as an academic representative, chairing meetings and voicing student concerns has taught me the skills to best represent students in meetings with Faculties and College. I have also helped promote and coordinate both weekly and year-round campaigns. All of this experience will allow me to support the Deputy Presidents in their roles.

My sabbatical year has given me the opportunity to work closely with the Union staff and Officer Trustees. I want to continue their work to make big change happen.

    Clubs, Committees & Boards

Drama, Light Opera, Music, Netball, Organ Donor Drive, RAG, Summer Ball

I have experience of many Union boards, including the Clubs, Societies & Projects Board, Education & Representation Board, Community & Welfare Board, Union Council and Trustee Board. With my experience and knowledge I could, if elected, hit the ground running to make the most of my term and make the change you want to see.

A key part of all the roles I've held has been working with students across all campuses. I understand how tricky it can be to fulfil a role and solve problems when a committee is geographically spread. However it is this experience that drives my desire to provide support across campuses. I will come out to you to hear your issues and help amplify them up to the appropriate level.

All the roles I've held have highlighted the importance of long term planning. Too many jobs can get dropped during handover but I will work to finish projects started by this year's team.

From competing in sport matches to directing shows to representing students' views in Union and College I have a wide range of experience to benefit you.

    Reynolds Bar Supervisor

    Understanding our commercial services

Working at Reynolds Bar as Supervisor has given me fantastic insight into the Union's commercial services. I have a strong understanding of the finances of our bars and want to work to maintain student-friendly prices, a wide range of products and an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere that caters to all our students.

Setting up and working behind the bar at Imperial College Union's Summer Ball has provided me with an inside view of THE biggest event of the year. I want to feed your voices into it to make sure everything we do makes for an amazing event so you can celebrate the end of the year in style.

    Imperial College Student

    Part of a global community

I was drawn to Imperial by the variety of clubs & societies and the prestigious academic programmes offered. Five years later and it's the extra-curricular activities that have defined my time here.

Through close work with staff and students we can create a more accessible union for all students. This will help us to engage with all of our members which will strengthen our bonds as a community and organisation. Greater engagement will result in benefits for current and future students. I want to continue working towards better engagement to ensure student-driven developments.

    Charlotte Hampson

    RCSU Vice-President (Activities)

Chippy will make a great Union President because she is already incredibly engaged with the Union system at Imperial. She is the first candidate who I think is committed to taking feedback from students and feeding these into her policies. I am voting for her because of her promise for greater CU support - helping to provide the Constituent Unions with the tools to unify and engage students through different events, resources and policies. Her experience in ICSM until this point will be invaluable for following through on these promises. In addition, she is willing to work on uniting Sport Imperial and the Union to provide group coaches to Harlington/Heston for games and practices, so everyone can avoid minibus drama every week! I think Chippy will make a committed, knowledgeable and proactive Union President and I'm excited about her new ideas for Imperial!

    Ben Howitt

    DPCS 2015/16

I worked with Chippy while she was ICSMSU Treasurer and Clubs & Societies Officer. She’s got a work ethic that puts most of us to shame, as well as having held down many of the toughest volunteer roles the Union supports. More than that, Chippy has the guts to make hard decisions and the ability to cut through the mess that surrounds them. She’s student-focused, but is still able to interact with staff as equals, which is hugely important.

    Harry Kingsley-Smith

    DramSoc Social Secretary

When you need help with something then the chances are people will direct you to Chippy. This was true even before she was ICSM president because Chippy gets things done. Having been on an inordinate number of committees and a current sabbatical officer - there is no one with more experience nor a greater understanding of how clubs, societies and general college life run.

More personally, I am voting for Chippy because as a wide eyed fresher she was one of the friendliest faces at Imperial. She actively pushed me to get involved with societies which have formed a huge part of my time here and I cannot imagine my time here being as enjoyable without her. She has both the experience and personal skills required to be President - and I know she will do a fantastic job.

    Shivam Patel

    Vision Society President

The Union President needs to be someone who understands the needs of all and not just a few students, someone who has the organisation to actually push through change and be responsive to change. Chippy has definitely proved herself capable of all these over the past few years. As an active member of many clubs at Imperial, running them was made significantly easier with the help of Chippy being on hand to answer questions and put up with numerous requests! I am confident that Chippy is the right candidate for the job, and that she will use her skills to benefit all students at Imperial and not just a select few.

    Michael Edwards

    Union Council Ordinary Member

I've worked with Chippy on a number of the Union's committees this year, and I can vouch for her dedication to her constituents and her determination to get the best for everyone.

Even though she's a medic, I trust her to have EVERYONE'S best interest at heart. She's always one to hear someone out rather than shut them down outright, and works to the compromise when things get heated.

With her unparalleled ICSMSU experience, she'll be a stellar leader for the Union next year as our next President.

    Matt Machin

    Student Bar Manager 2014-16

There are many reasons why Chippy would make a fantastic Union President. However, I shall elaborate on just a few. Chippy has always and will always put students first. In my years as manager, I found Chippy to be an invaluable source of support in ensuring the voice of the student body was always heard and listened to. She has worked tirelessly and with unparalleled enthusiasm for many years to support the medical school and student life as a whole, and I’ve no doubt that she is the perfect person to fulfil the role of Union President. With the unique experience of being the current ICSM Union President, Chippy is certainly more than prepared to take up this challenging role.

    Med Harris

    ICSMSU President 2015/16

Chippy’s experience and contribution to Imperial was rightly recognised last year with an Outstanding Service Award from Imperial College Union. With an excess of 30 committee and board roles (the majority core committee) under her belt, Chippy has proven many times over she has the maturity and capability to not only juggle the variable demands of union work but make impactful improvements along the way.

It is great to see that she now wishes to take on the role of Union President allowing the whole Imperial community to benefit from her knowledge, leadership and desire to improve our experience at Imperial. Vote Chippy!

    Riccardo Masina

    BioMed Society President

I've had the pleasure to work with Chippy during this academic year in ICSMSU. She is a wonderful leader and an outstanding problem solver. This was the first year my position was in ICSMSU, and her support throughout has been invaluable. Thanks to her, biomeds can now say they have a strong voice. I believe she would be a great Union President. Firstly, because she values every member of the cohort she represents. Secondly, in light of the commitment that she has shown throughout the year as ICSMSU President. Lastly, no one has her experience with Imperial policies. Chippy is the most qualified candidate for the position, and the most committed one. I have no doubt that she will achieve great things for the union!
